Diehard Nazareno Nation, 2012

by Roberto M. Bernardo, author of Rizal vs Catholicism

F aith-besotted, swarming in want and benighted still

This Nazareno Nation inclines to theocratic ways of old.

It bristles as then with Mom Mary & her Babe’s icons,

While used to making its praised Wielder of the Bolo

Cut down to size its unread Pride of the Malay Race.

Unknown is this freethinker's anti-Catholic anti-arms stance,

If it knew clamors would have put the arms-wielder on Top,

Of the new colonizers' preference for the radical reformist.

These knew him for Enlightenist Church-State separatist,

While Nazarenos viewed him as rebel Catholic deep down.

Church-fought freethought Noli asked in its epigraph:

"How can such wastrels & rats to greatness ever rise?".

None yet know that work as such, none care to reread.

Knowledge-Morals tests rank low this Nazareno Nation,

Custom-made butt for First Worlders in scorn to kick. # # #

Quote of the Day

"I had a linguistics professor who said that it's man's ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there's one other thing that separates us from animals -- we aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners."--Jeff Stilson
