Dear Jesse, Great article. The comparisons with Marcos and Mubarak are right on. All the things that are going on in Egypt, also happened almost 30 years ago, when Marcos was forced to leave the country. One difference, since you wrote this: Mubarak has no intention in leaving before the September elections, and the current U.S. president hasn't got a clue what's going on. Perhaps because his so-called Intelligence{?} chief, James Clapper, called the Muslim Brotherhood "...a very heterogeneous group, largely secular, which has eschewed violence and has decried Al Qaeda as a perversion of Islam," which couldn't be further from the truth. First, the CIA calls them a religious group. Remember the assassination of Anwar Sadat, the Egyptian president who signed the peace accords with Israel? This was done by members of the Muslim Brotherhood. Mohamed ElBaradei, the current head of the Muslim Brotherhood, has denounced on Arab television, any peace with Israel or any western country, and wants to create a state governed by Islamic law and its slogan is "Islam is the Solution". A past member of the brotherhood is Ayman al-Zawahiri, the current second in command of Al Qaeda, behind Osama Bin Laden. President Obama is not Ronald Reagan, who worked to rescue Marcos from the Philippines. Based on his latest statements, Obama doesn't seem to know what to do. What should have been done years ago, stop supporting Mubarak and the Egyptian military until Mubarak stepped down, and Egypt wouldn't be in the situation it is now. All we can do, and what Obama should do, is do nothing. We need learn to mind our own business. The Egyptian military will take care of this situation. They have all the power and will come to terms with what needs to be done. They still need our military equipment, parts and training, from our military. But what do I know? Just saying.......
