No matter how you look at Obama's order, this is nothing more than a desperate move to woo Hispanic voters. This is the same president who last year denounced any possibility he would sign such an order, arguing he does not have the executive authority to do so without appropriating that authority from Congress. Obama, in this light, appears as a hungry opportunist, realizing his chances of getting re-elected are getting dimmer and dimmer. So, he has to do everything to boost his chances, aware that he is doing so against the law and contrary to what he told the country last year. Would anybody believe this president anymore? Not a chance. We have a huge immigration mess, growing every year, and to do a short-term fix in the service of getting re-elected, even knowing this violates the Constituion, tells me how abysmally low this president can go as an unprincipled politician. Solving the immigration mess requires courage, principles, and the will to enforce the laws on the books. Nothing short of this will undo what years of effete political action has done. Obama, unfortunately, has become as nothing more than a laughing stock in making things worse.
