All the while, I thought the LOVE OF MONEY (not Manny) is the root of all evil. Marlowe In a message dated 2/12/2010 10:05:07 P.M. Camello, for your point of view. Just like Speedy Reynaldo of the Samarnon's e-group, you pointed out correctly the original (biblical) version. I used the "colloquial" (or misquoted) version. I will post your and Speedy's commentary in the User's Comments -- without your e-mail address. Mabuhay, Lolo Bobby M. Reyes PS: Here is the commentary of Speedy Reynaldo and my retort: In a message dated 2/12/2010 2:48:06 P.M. Pacific Standard Time, speedy_reynaldo writes: Re: [GugmaHanSamar] Speedy Is Right on "Love of Money" It is the "Love of Money". Not Money itself. --------------------------------- Yes, Speedy, you are right from the original (biblical) context. The original phrase was derived from a saying attributed to Jesus in the Apostle Paul's First Epistle to Timothy in the New Testament: "The love of money is the root of all evil" (1 Timothy 6:10, KJV). The expression is commonly misquoted as simply "Money is the root of all evil". A more accurate rendering from the original Greek may be: "For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil," (New American Standard Bible). But then whether St. Paul's, the Greek and/or the misquoted versions are used, the act of Manny Villar in practically giving away at least one-fourth of his net worth to the public in form of campaign expenditure demonstrates not the "love of money" but his desire to "share" his money with the Filipino people. Thank you for your comment. Mabuhay and Padayon, Lolo Bobby M. Reyes
