T he Media Breakfast Club (MBC) of Los Angeles, California, voted again today to endorse the Republican presidential slate headed by Sen. John McCain. The re-vote happened at the regular Wednesday-morning community forum held today at the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA) Social Hall. The MBC has held without any interruption the weekly forum since July 7, 1993. Atty. Terry Herrera was today’s moderator.
Many of the MBC members are actually the so-called “Reagan Democrats,” with a few Republican-Party stalwarts. Two other MBC members who are registered Democrats abstained, as they are leaning also for Senator McCain but they did not sign the written endorsement. This writer founded the MBC in June 1993. The present MBC chairman, German-American journalist Henry von Seyfriend, MBC moderator emeritus Romy P. Borje and Mar G. de Vera, a journalist-book author, were absent during the re-vote. All of them are supporters of Senator McCain. Mr. Borje is the dean of Filipino-American columnists. Mr. De Vera heads the Los Angeles Newsday Publishing. Mr. Von Seyfried is the past chairman of the Knights of Rizal, Los Angeles chapter, and the American Legion, Manila Post 464. Messrs. Borje, De Vera and Von Seyfried are also MBC cofounders along with Poet-pundit Fred Burce Bunao, Manila television host Carrie Garcia Lorenzana and publisher Nena Aragon Decena. Mesdames Lorenzana and Decena are now deceased. # # #
