A Cup o' Kapeng Barako

This is for my fellow senior citizens. My wife sent it to me with a note that says: “Sweetheart, please tell me this won’t happen to us.”
Here it is. Enjoy.
“A little old lady was running up and down in a nursing home. As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say, ‘Supersex.’ She walked to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping her gown, she said, ‘Supersex!’ “He sat silently for a moment or two and finally answered, ‘I’ll take the soup.’”
Now, I’d like to share with you a couple of feedbacks from my story last week, “Farewell, Falwell …”
The first one read: “WOW is all I can say, Mr. Jesse. You seem to be the Filipino version of Jesse James, shooting all the bullets in your six-shooter at the Conservative Christians. But it is your right to write as you damn please … according to the First Amendment.
“More power to you, JJ, although some of your friends (our mutual pals?) in Chicago refuse to read your column….”
Well, it’s to their loss if they don’t read my column. Some of my PALS in Chicago are TOXIC creatures, anyway. With toxic creatures, you stay away from them … as far away as you can. Their REFUSAL to read my column brought to mind “THE THREE MONKEYS,” where one has its hands covering its eyes, the second has its hands covering both ears, and the third has its hands covering its mouth.
They don’t wanna see, they don’t wanna hear, and they don’t wanna talk, except to each other. Among monkeys, the practice is: monkey see, monkey do, monkey talk. Read between the lines. I have no further comment.
The second feedback read: “Hold on, Jesse. People, including columnists, are not supposed to speak ill of the dead. You lambasted the Rev. Falwell, who cannot defend himself because he is six-feet under the ground….”
Yes, I suppose I shouldn’t be doing that. But as a journalist, it’s my duty to tell the evil deeds of this man. The truth of the matter, so to speak.
Former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, who died a long time ago, is still spoken ill of as a “debased ruthless dictator,” who “raped and looted” the Philippines for 20 years. He’s still a cursed man. And the ills that beset the Motherland are still being blamed on him. Poor Apo.
The same thing goes with Idi Amin, who was once Uganda’s president. People still denounce his madness and cruelty. And so with Hitler and Stalin and Pol Pot and the rest of those EVIL people that came into this earth.
These people are now long dead, yet we still speak ill of them. Their evil words and deeds are still topics in books and movies. Their stories are told over and over again, for in the telling and re-telling, we hope to become more aware and watchful of wannabe despots and Rasputin’s….
So much for the past. Let’s go to the present.
So, despite the fact that majority of Americans want a pull-out timetable for the Iraq war, the Democrat-controlled Congress didn’t get a war-spending bill with a withdrawal deadline past Mr. Bush. That’s sad. I wouldn’t call it a compromise, because it isn’t! I wouldn’t even call it a promise to continue the debate, because it isn’t! I would call it what it is: an OUTRIGHT FAILURE! Didn’t we, the people, speak as one? Didn’t we say: “Let’s bring the troops home!” Didn’t we say that this war is a STUPID war?
Didn’t we say our troops there are dying needlessly? It’s now over 3,466 … and counting! This past Memorial weekend as we celebrated an extra day-off from work, TEN American soldiers were killed. Then SEVEN more on Tuesday, and FOUR more this Wednesday, making the month of May the DEADLIEST month for U.S. troops in two and a half years. Didn’t we say that this STUPID war has been draining America’s treasures? It’s now $300 BILLION … and counting! And that’s not to mention that contentious war-spending bill of $120 BILLION, approved by Congress and signed off by Mr. Bush.
Didn’t we say that this war was a war of choice by Mr. Bush? That the reason for it was based on his OUTRIGHT lies. Didn’t we say we are sick and tired of this war? And that we wanted to end this war NOW? Aren’t we a government OF, BY and FOR the people? Why is it then that our common will AS the people was thwarted?
Last week those Democrats in Congress who rode into power on a pledge to stop funding the NEEDLESS and STUPID war in Iraq voted overwhelmingly to continue funding it. Liars! They all lie! Politicians of the Right, Left and Center are all the same! Mga nang-uuto lang, ika nga.
Yo, America! Where’s your outrage? # # #
