Dr. SB will call his column, "Making It in the USA."  He intends to write a series about "Political Secrets." We will run the first of the series today.

The participation of Dr. SB in this experimental online Filipino publication may be crucial in helping achieve political and socioeconomic empowerment for Filipino Americans. Obviously, our people have to learn much from other Asian Americans, especially the Chinese Americans, who have had more success stories in American politics than the Filipino-American community leaders.

I wrote in my political novel that the Filipino is really an enigma. He looks Asian because many Filipinos have Chinese blood. And China, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, India and other Asian countries have contributed to the making of the Filipino heritage. But many people do not consider Filipinos as Asians. Why? Because Filipinos are the most-Americanized Orientals and they are in fact called by some sectors as the “Brown Americans,” as explained in an article in this web site. Perhaps Dr. SB’s column may enable the Filipino Americans to rekindle faster and more-comprehensively their Asian roots.

Maybe by joining the “80-20 Asian Initiative,” Filipino Americans can finally become part of the Asian-American community and complete faster their political-empowerment drive.
