Remembering Perry Calica
| Remembering Perry Calica |
Today, April 9, 2007, is the death anniversary of Dr. Perry Calica of Los Angeles, California, and Baguio City, Philippines. He was a World War II veteran and headed the American Legion, Manila Post 464, at the time of his death.
Dr. Calica was also the president of the Philippine Town Movement, Inc., and he was the moderator in 1994 of the Media Breakfast Club of Los Angeles, CA. He wrote a newspaper column for several Filipino-American publications.
Many veterans and the members of the Media Breakfast Club miss Dr. Calica because he gave his all in public service to the community. He wore many hats in the community and people appreciated his concern and care for his fellow Filipinos in the United States.
Thank you very much for remembering the death anniversary of my father. You are indeed, a real friend.
May God bless you in all your undertakings.
Sincerely,
Jun Calica
Ma’am/ Sir
I am Michael “micoy” Calica – Agustin, grandson of the late Dr. Pery Calica. I may not have lived and witnessed the works of my Grandfather since I was born and raised here in the Philippines, but I guess I could literaly claim that im one of the 3rd Generation CALICA that had been inclined with the political and civic advocacy of “Lakay Tino”.
I am a native of Baguio City and we share the same “Dr.” prefix BUT I ventured my doctorate - - in Medicine at University of Santo Tomas. Like my grandfather I had been an active Editor and Writer of various school publications. As a student leader years back, I worked on school legislation and I hold my own University Political Party and Civic Organization.
I was only in grade-school when he passed away, I never got the chance to talk to him nor see his publications and works. It would be a pleasure if you could send me one, or at the least, stories about his political and social perspectives. I want to know more about my lolo and take part of his legacy.
As we celebrate his death anniversary this year, I’m extending my deepest gratitude on all the people who have worked with him and all the people continually remembering him.
sincerely,
Dr. Micoy Agustin
