The ALLIANCE FOR A JUST & LASTING PEACE IN THE PHILIPPINES—NEW YORK, the Gabriela Network and A.N.S.W.E.R. (ACT NOW TO STOP WAR AND END RACISM) will hold a big rally in front of the Philippine Center in New York to symbolically deliver deportation orders to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA).

WHEN: Thursday, June 26th @ 6:30pm (flyering starts @ 5pm)
WHERE: The Philippine Consulate, 556 Fifth Avenue (between 45th and 46th Street), Manhattan
SUBWAY DIRECTIONS: 7 to 5th Ave; 4/5/6 to Grand Central-42nd Street, B/D/V/F to 47-50th Rockefeller Center.
Progressive Filipinos and allies in New York City will "detain and deport” symbolically Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo (GMA)" in front of the Philippine Consulate TOMORROW, JUNE 26. The cultural-street action, along with speeches and statements from various Filipino and allied organizations will illustrate the criminalization of Filipino immigrants. It will also serve as an act of protest to GMA's 10-day visit to the U.S. She will be in New York City on June 26-28 to meet with US politicians to ensure continued U.S. military support, and to court investors in a bid to further sell off the natural resources of the Philippines. So the existing colonial puppet-master relationship continues.

In his meeting with GMA last Tuesday, U.S. President Bush congratulated GMA on her "effective stand on counter-terrorism" and for "laying out a vision for peace." This "effective stand" on "peace" has resulted in more than 1,000 activists killed, more than 200 missing, and more than 200 detained, in the most blatant form of state violence and appalling human-rights record the Philippines has ever seen.

Recently, the U.S. economic downturn has scapegoated immigrants locally. The Filipino community has been under attack, with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on homes, buses, trains and workplaces as part of the U.S. government's tactic of deporting and detaining immigrants to ease its economic crisis.

The GMA's agenda is to thank President Bush for passing the Filipino Veterans Equity Bill, a bill still in Congress and yet to be passed in the House of Representatives. Justice still needs to be served for the Filipino World War 2 Veterans 62 years after the it was declared they are not considered as U.S. veterans, depriving them of benefits.

The Filipino community in New York City refuses to allow GMA to continue to sell of the natural resources of the Philippines and tout the U.S.-Philippines "friendship", while neglecting the conditions of the Filipino immigrant community.

STOP THE POLITICAL KILLINGS IN THE PHILIPPINES!
STOP THE CRIMINALIZATION OF FILIPINO U.S. IMMIGRANTS!
