CHICAGO, Illinois (JGLi) – A salute to the troops, singing and beauty
contests and other cultural presentations will highlight this year’s U.S.-Philippines
Expo presentations from August 9-10 at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds
(Fairplex) in suburban Pomona, California, according to one of its supporters.
Bobby M. Reyes, a Los Angeles community leader and MabuhayRadio.com publisher, said the 8th US-Philippines Expo to be held at 1101 West McKinley Avenue, Pomona, will also witness the launching of a grassroots movement called “FBR-Philippines.” FBR is an initial for “Friends for Bold Reforms” in the Philippines. It was registered with the Los Angeles County Clerk in October 2003 to support the then presidential campaign of Sen. Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. in the May 2004 elections.
The FBR plans to play an active role in the upcoming presidential elections in the Philippines in 2010 through what it calls “Philippine Revotelution 2010." (Its website, www.revotelution.com, is under construction.)
Inspired by the ideals of Jose Rizal, the FBR will try to complete Rizal’s unfinished business. It will be “pro-active, pro-people, progressive, pro-environment and peaceful” undertaking of its leaders, supporters and volunteers, who could even meet “their martyrdom before the election period is finished by June 30, 2010.”
Among others, the FBR will link up with some cause-oriented groups such as the Los Angeles-based Bangon! Bagong Pilipinas headed by Ramoncito P. Ocampo, a licensed lawyer both in the Philippines and in California; Philippine-based ang Kabutihan Panglahat (AKP or Common Good), headed by Eric Manalang; Aksyon Demokratiko (of the late Sen. Raul Roco); and regional parties like Bicol Saro (Bicol United).
The FBR plans to join an OFW-led political alliance that will field common slates for the presidency, vice presidency, Senate, House of Representatives and local-government positions in the 2010 elections.
The US-Philippines Expo is the original grand cultural, trade and consumer show in Southern California. Among those expected to perform in its Show of Shows are Charice, Randy Santiago, Sitti Navarro, Paul Enriquez, Long Espina, Malou Toler, Bambi Lopez-Roda, Dan Dizon and Pio Roda. Filipino-American cultural and dance troupes and ensembles are slated also to perform. Bambi Lopez-Roda will host, and Jet Montelibano will direct the shows.
Winners of singing and beauty competitions will get the top prizes of $650 and $350 plus trophies. The Expo will also feature kids corner and exhibits. Entrance fees to the Expo are $8 for adult and $5 for child/senior.
Among the main sponsors are Normandie Casino, KSCI-TV Channel 18, Asian Journal, Asian-American Peoples Journal and Weekend Balita, ABS-CBN and TFC. One of the missions of Expo is to create awareness of the vast market potential of the Filipino-American community’s products and to showcase Filipino and Filipino American cultures before mainstream America.
The MabuhayRadio.com heads the list of secondary sponsors, which include among others the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, the Philippine Department of Tourism, Western Union, MoneyGram, Manila-US Times, MyGringos.com, Abraham Lim Law Office, Creative Concepts, Chase Bank, Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel, Frontliners Media Group, Beau Monet Corp., San Fernando Valley Balita, RPJ Productions and Talent Agency, RSG Fine Jewelry and the LA Sound Machine Recording Studio.

Dear Friends:
1.0 "PR 2010" is not a flight number of the Philippine Airlines. It means, "Philippine Revolution 2010," which best describes an idea and proposal of having a constitutionally-elected government (by and of an OFW-led political alliance) do well-studied and well-publicized drastic revolutionary agenda, platform of government and economic programs. Actually, the General Motors' "American Revolution" commercials inspired us to adopt the name.
1.1 After brainstorming sessions with key supporters and advisers, many of us think that the best way to create positive changes is to present a radically-different approach to the Filipino society and voters in the 2010 elections . Of course, the agenda has to be well-publicized and a well-funded campaign is a must. Why the need for a different approach? If Inang Bayan has breast cancer, pain killers and even radiation treatments will not stop fast enough the disease; we have to do a radical mastectomy -- before the (social) cancer metastasize -- and take almost all of the cancer cells out.
2.0 Funding should not be a problem, IF the Overseas Filipinos will believe and realize that the "PR 2010" idea is really doable and viable. BUT we have to show people that we have the necessary initial human-and-financial resources to commence the beginning of a well-organized political campaign geared to win the Philippine presidency, vice presidency, control of the Senate and a decent share of congressional seats and local-government positions. After the core group produces the seed money, the program will take off on a fast-and-furious phase. Money begets money and we will accumulate funds that can make our political alliance the best-funded political machinery in the history of the Philippines. We expect even the business world -- within and outside of the Philippines -- to support our initiative. We will repay donors and contributors not with favors but with real payment plus a nominal interest. How this will be done can be discussed in face-to-face meetings that we will undertake in many cities in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Asia and of course in the homeland for the next 12 months.
3.0 We intend to launch "PR 2010" at the US-Philippines Expo at Building Four, Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, CA, on Aug. 9-10, 2008.
3.1 We have invited the Ang Kapatiran Pary (AKP) of the Philippines to man a booth at the expo and join us in presenting the ideas to the public, especially the Filipino-American community leaders in Southern California. We will provide the AKP with a complimentary booth, so that it may also be able to organize and staff an AKP USA chapter, if not chapters. We expect the AKP to be the first of several smaller duly-accredited (national or regional) political parties to join us in a strategic alliance to obtain the projected victories in the 2010 elections.
3.1.1 The main function of our exhibits at the US-Philippines Expo is not only to inform people of our mission and give them more details about the "PR 2010" but also to get their input on how we will be able to improve the plans and programs, if not make them more viable.
3.1.2 By Nov. 30, 2008, our media group should have by then published the first hardcover and/or paperback edition of "PR 2010" book, which will become a primer, if not the equivalent of the Bible, of the coming revolutionary movement, albeit peaceful, pro-people, progressive, pro-environment but passionate about doing fundamental structural reforms in the Philippine government and even society itself -- operating within the bounds of Philippine and American laws.
3.1.3 You all have to decide whether you would want to come out in the open and join our team members and me as the initial faces of the revolution. We have to let the public know who are the people behind the movement's core group because we will completely observe the ATIC as our slogan. ATIC, as I coined, means accountability, transparency, integrity and credibility.
We hope to send to you drafts of the various position papers that will be published in the "PR 2010" book. Please feel free to send back your comments, suggested changes or innovations and even dissenting opinion.
For your perusal and commentary,
Mabuhay,
Bobby M. Reyes
What you are doing is truly commendable.
Its about time the power and clout of the sleeping giant of Overseas Filipinos be awakened, united, and harnessed to rebuild our nation and save the more than 30% Filipinos who are marginalized and languishing in abject poverty.
But please be sure our candidates are leaders of integrity, transparency, and accountability to provide good governance, unlike the trapos now running our country who are crooks and plunderers.
I wish you all the best. My prayers are with you. God bless you and your kind.
