This columnist joined the www.PickensPlan.com as a volunteer upon seeing a television ad about it. He joined it because T. Boone Pickens is right when he said: “Every year we send $700 billion out of the United States to pay for imported oil. Now foreign oil is at the core of the three most-critical issues America is facing today: the economy, our environment and our national security.”

The Pickens Plan deplores America’s oil dependence that has gone from 24% in 1970 to 70% today. Oil dependence is a crisis, but the American people can solve it.

On June 17, 2008, T. Boone Pickens was invited to testify before the Senate Energy and Commerce Committee about the future of American energy. People can watch video of Mr. Pickens’ testimony in his website, www.pickensplan.com.

Perhaps the advocacy that Mr. Pickens is proposing for the American people should be copied by the policy-and-decision makers of the Philippines, which imports more than 90% of its energy supplies, consisting mainly of fossil fuels.

The www.mabuhayradio.com has published proposals for the Filipino people, with the help of Overseas Filipinos, on how they could be energy independent, among other suggestions we have floated to secure for them socioeconomic empowerment. We have a section on Global Warming  where we published 15 articles so far on how the Filipino people may be able to do their share in addressing climate change. Some of the particular articles are:

The OFW-led Political Party's "Vision RP 2021" Master Plan (where the goal of attaining full or at least quasi independence from fossil fuels is proposed).

How OFWs Can "Reinvent" Power Generation in RP and Simultaneously Fight Global Warming (Part 14)

Here is a brief description of the Pickens Plan:

“The Pickens Plan is a bridge to the future — a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives, and buy us time to develop even greater new technologies.

“Building new wind-generation facilities and better utilizing our natural gas resources can replace more than one-third of our foreign oil imports in 10 years. But it will take leadership.

“On January 20th, 2009, a new President will take office.

“We're organizing behind the Pickens Plan now to ensure our voices will be heard by the next administration.

“Together we can raise a call for change and set a new course for America's energy future in the first hundred days of the new presidency — breaking the hammerlock of foreign oil and building a new domestic energy future for America with a focus on sustainability.

“You can start changing America's future today by supporting the Pickens Plan.”  Join now.
