"Join This Olympics and Get Gold" on Aug. 20, 2008, Wed.,
7:30 p.m. (Manila Time), on KK! @ DZRH -AM
The 2008 Summer Olympic Games, which is now going on in Beijing, People's Republic of China, will end on August 24, 2008. Its theme, "One World, One Dream," covers three core concepts: "Green Olympics, High-tech Olympics, and People's Olympics." It reflects the "philosophies and ideals of the Chinese people since ancient times in their pursuit of harmony between man and nature and harmony among people."
While members of Team Philippines continue to play hard to get one or more gold medals in that Olympics, another type of Olympics offers easier opportunities for ALL to get gold. This is the Zero Basura Olympics that the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC), Earth Day Network Philippines, Zero Waste Recycling Movement of the Phil., Mother Earth Phil., Phil. Business for the Environment, EARTH Institute Asia, and other organizations launched on June 20, 2008.
The Zero Basura Olympics aims to fast track the implementation of RA 2003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act. Its goal is to have resource recovery through total recycling, with established ecology center in every barangay.
Not everyone can join the Summer Olympics in Beijing or anywhere else in the future. And those who are able to join it cannot easily get gold or even lesser type of medals. But anyone can join the Zero Basura Olympics and get gold. How can one do so?
Editor’s Note: The episode on "Sustainable Development Challenges to the Banking Industry," which was tentatively scheduled on Aug. 20, 2008, will be aired in October 2008 when KK! will already be on teleradio.
