Pops Fernandez (second from left) heads a line-up of Filipino and Filipino-American entertainers and performers at the US-Philippines Expo this weekend at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds at Pomona, California. The entertainment portion of the Expo is billed the "Show of Shows." The US-Philippines Expo, the first and original major Filipino-American festival and trade show, returned to the Pomona Fairplex last year. To Ms. Fernandez' right is Filipino-American Hollywood actress Cassandra Hepburn, who will be one of the judges of the Miss US-Philippines Expo 2007 pageant. After Ms. Fernandez are Sean Michael Afable and Mare Dayco, who was dubbed the "Filipino Spitfire" at UCLA. Mr. Afable is being honored as one of the Filipino-American Achievers for this year. Ms. Dayco will be one of the judges in the Expo's singing competition.
As of press time, the Media Breakfast Club of Los Angeles has announced that it has secured additional prizes for the Miss US-Philippines Expo 2007, the 2007 runner-up and the Miss US-Philippines Expo 2006. The three winners will be fielded as contestants to the October 2007 Philippine-American Ambassador of Goodwill competition being conducted by the Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County. Ms. Elizabeth C. Watermeier of the New York Life Insurance Company will sponsor the three Expo beauties to the Ambassador of Goodwill competition and pay the registration fee of $500 per contestant.
