New Filipino Consul General in Los Angeles

The Honorable Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon has assumed her post as the Philippine consul general in Los Angeles, California.

The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is pleased to announce that Deputy Consul General Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon has assumed post recently as Philippine Consul General in Los Angeles vice Consul General Willy C. Gaa, now in Washington, D.C., as the Philippine Ambassador to the United States of America.      

Consul General Bernardo-Aragon is a career diplomat with the rank of Chief of Mission II.  Before assuming her post at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles then as Deputy Consul General in June last year, Mrs. Bernardo-Aragon held the position of Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (2005-2006). Other positions she held in the Home Office were as Special Assistant to the Undersecretary for Administration (2201-2005 and 1992-1994), Executive Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Coordination (1991-1992 and 1982), Director of the Office of European Affairs (1990-1991), Principal Assistant and then as Acting Director of the Office of Policy Planning and Coordination (1979-1982).     

In the Foreign Service, Mrs. Bernardo- Aragon served at the Philippine Mission to the United Nations in New York from 1994 to 2001, as Minister Counsellor, then as Minister and finally as Deputy Permanent Representative. Her first posting was at the Philippine Embassy in Brussels, Belgium and the Philippine Mission to the European Communities from 1982-1990, as Third Secretary and Vice-Consul, then as Second Secretary and Consul, and finally as First Secretary and Consul General.       

Consul General Bernardo Aragon earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Schiller College in Bonnigheim, Germany and London, UK, and a diploma in International Relations from the University of London, UK.       

Born in Manila, Mrs. Bernardo-Aragon is married and has one daughter.
