The day of reckoning for the National Federation of Filipino-American Associations (NaFFAA) has been postponed to February 2008. The criminal-jury trial of former NaFFAA national executive officer, Ben Menor, has been reset for Feb. 19, 2008. The trial was originally set for Dec. 3, 2007.

And so the Filipino-American community’s version of the “day of infamy” cannot coincide with the commemoration of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, was described by then President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

According to our correspondent, Tito Cortez, the Public Defender’s Office (PDO), which is handling the defense of Mr. Menor, moved for the resetting of the trial date. The PDO said that it needed more time to examine the more-than 30,000 pages of documentary evidence that the District Attorney has presented to the court as exhibits of Mr. Menor’s alleged fraudulent conduct.

Mr. Cortez will file sometime this week a more-comprehensive report of the Ben-Menor trial.
