On June 16, 2010, Wednesday is the regular episode of Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!): Our celebration of Environment Month this June, including Al Gore’s recent visit to Manila, reminds us to care for this awesome but fragile Earth. We can do so in many ways, starting by simply using water, energy, and other resources in a more environment-friendly way. But other people and their organizations are doing more. Hear some of their initiatives and what else you can do. Tune in/watch  KK! on June 16 at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Manila time) at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), various TV stations (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), and Internet .

Guests are: Shelley-Ann Britanico Porte, Earth Day Network, Washington, D.C., Sonia Mendoza, president, Mother Earth Foundation, and top scientists-officials from the California Academy of Sciences, San Francisco, California, who are working on a marine project in the Philippines—Dr. Terrence Gosliner, Sr. Curator and Sr. Officer for Collaborative Programs, Dr. Gary Williams, Curator and Chair, Invertebrate Zoology and Geology, and Dr. Robert Van Syoc, Marine Biologist and Collection Manager, Invertebrates. Dr. Cora Claudio, president, EARTH Institute Asia, Inc., will moderate the discussion.

On June 19, 2010, Saturday: Join the seminar on Enhancement of Community Disaster Preparedness and Livelihood”  in The EARTH School, Flor’s Garden, Marcos Highway, Antipolo City, 8AM to 5 PM. Organized by EARTH Institute Asia, Inc. and Flor’s Garden, it aims to help local communities improve their disaster preparedness with an integrated strategy, strengthen their capabilities to produce and process organically grown food for both emergency and normal times, and enhance active collaboration of public and private groups on emergency preparedness. The seminar includes technology demonstration, product exhibits, healthy gourmet food, garden tour, and gifts to participants. Pre-registration required with 20% discount on or before June 15, 2010 or for 5 or more participants.
