T he "Dare To Be 100” is the title of a book by Dr. Walter M. Bortz, II. He is a leading expert in the field of health and aging and a faculty member of the Stanford University Medical School  in Palo Alto, California, US. Dr. Bortz II uses DARE to mean Diet, Attitude, Renewal, and Exercise. In the book, he offers 99 DARE steps for an effective plan for living long, healthy and fulfilled lives. “It is a splendid book,” according to Erica Jong.

During her trip to the US in March 2010, Dr. Cora Claudio, president of EARTH Institute Asia and host of the multi-media broadcast program Kalikasan Kaunlaran! received a copy of Dr. Bortz’s book from a successful Filipina in the US, Ms. Gertrude Gergorio, Dean, Adaptive Learning Division, Foothill College, Los Altos, California. “Indeed, it is a splendid book—especially for senior citizens whose assigned payment counter in groceries in the Philippines is marked with the image of a couple with a cane or walking stick,” says Dr. Claudio.

Many senior citizens do not walk with a cane. But how many of them, as well of the young ones, will dare to be 100? Is it achievable?

In addition to Dr. Bortz’s 99 steps that could help you reach 100 or a few years more, Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!) will feature some natural strategies for a long, healthy, and fulfilled life—starting from birth. Tune in/watch KK! on April 28, 2010, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Manila time) at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), various TV stations (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), and Internet http://dzrh.prepys.com or http://dzrh.tripod.com.

Quote of the Day

"I had a linguistics professor who said that it's man's ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there's one other thing that separates us from animals -- we aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners."--Jeff Stilson
