"Global Warming: Threats and Adaptive Measures" Is Topic for KK! Talk Show on Nov. 5, 2008, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. (Manila Time) on DZRH

T he financial crisis, which originated from the United States of America, has become a global concern. But the threat of global warming is even more potentially devastating than it. Hence, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon urged leaders of developed countries not to neglect the issue of global warming because of the current economic slowdown. He also called on rich nations to help poor ones that are prone to global warming.

The Philippines is one of the countries that are highly vulnerable to global warming and climate change. A one-meter rise in sea level could directly affect more than 60% of the total population of the country who live in coastal areas.  It could flood and wipe out those coastal areas, decrease agricultural productivity, and increase public health risks nationwide.

This month, the Philippine government will attempt to form a national consensus on how to reduce the country's greenhouse gas emission, which is the main culprit that causes global warming. The objective is to make the Philippines a carbon-neutral country.

Editor’s Notes: The MabuhayRadio website has a section called Global Warming and there are 16 articles so far about the said topic.

What will it take to achieve that objective? How may you participate in forming the national consensus? What measures can and should you take to help reduce, if not eliminate, the threat of disastrous global warming and climate change?  Hear answers to these and related questions on Nov. 5, 2008, Wed., 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., as Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!) features Hon. Heherson Alvarez, Presidential Advisor on Global Warming and Climate Change and Dr. Helen Mendoza, president, Philippine Network on Climate Change.
