T he Philippines has the richest marine biodiversity in the world--the goose that can lay the golden egg in eco-tourism and sustainable harvesting of some of the species for the common good. The challenge is to protect and conserve this natural wealth, especially in the face of the risks associated with climate change. This requires, first, public awareness of the importance of marine biodiversity and of the issues affecting its sustainability.

The California Academy of Sciences (CAS) actively assists the Philippines in facing this challenge. It partners with local organizations in exploring the vast marine wealth of the country and in developing and recommending measures to conserve it. It also promotes public awareness of this natural wealth through the world-renowned natural museum of CAS in San Francisco, California, which now features an exhibition on the Philippine coral reefs.
