T he multi-media broadcast program Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! has been featuring noteworthy initiatives on the environment and sustainable development since its inception in October 2006. In June 2010, KK! features more of such initiatives with some of the latest technologies now available in the Philippines.  These initiatives aim to protect the environment as well as offer green-business opportunities.

The special seminar conducted jointly by EARTH Institute Asia and Flor’s Garden’s in the EARTH School, Flor’s Garden, Antipolo City, last June 19, 2010, brought together organizations and individuals with some of the latest noteworthy initiatives. Hear some of them and learn how you may participate in their initiatives. Tune in/watch  KK! on June 23, 2010, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Manila time) at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), various TV stations (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), and Internet http://dzrh.prepys.com .

G uests are: Regina Filart, vice president, Battery Doctors Philippines; Raymond Rubia, trainor-consultant, Agri-Aqua Network, International (AANI) and an organic farming practitioner, and Bert Peeters, co-manager, Cabiokid Foundation, a proponent of permaculture. Dr. Cora Claudio, president of the EARTH Institute Asia, Inc., will moderate the discussion.

Ms. Filart will introduce a new technology in the Philippines for recycling ordinary batteries. Mr. Rubia will give important pointers on organic agriculture which his family and other leading organic practitioners apply (with photos of interesting trees in his family farm in Candelaria, Quezon, that Dr. Cora Claudio took during her visit to the farm last Sunday, June 20). B. Peeters will talk about the application of permaculture to integrate organic agriculture, waste management and recycling, and sustainable community development, as demonstrated in their project site in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija.
