T une in or watch KK! on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, @ 6:30 p.m. (Manila time) at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila and other kHz nationwide), TV (Channel 9 in Metro Manila and other Cable TV channels nationwide), and on the Internet (http://dzrh.tripod.com, globally). The topic is “Wellness for All.”

Is poverty decreasing or increasing in the Philippines? "It depends on who is answering the question," someone says, "because poverty is relative—the poorer you are, the less relatives you have." Huh?

Poverty may be relative to each person, but it is a serious matter that all of us must help address. Our goal should be to eradicate it … and more. We should aim to provide wellness for every Filipino.

It is not enough to ensure that everyone has met the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, medical care, and education. Instead, we must ensure that everyone has wellness.

Wellness covers the body, mind and spirit. The National Wellness Association of Singapore defines it as an active process of becoming aware of and making choices toward a more successful existence. Some factors that affect this process are the quality of the environment, having a balanced life, and living in a peaceful and just community.

Wellness means having the chance to live life to its fullest potential and to enjoy peace, love, and joy.

On Dec. 31, 2008, Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK! ) will explore how Filipinos may attain wellness with two guests who deal with wellness in different ways: Social scientist Maria Lourdes Arcenas, Sr. Adviser on Sustainable Development, Mindanao Business Council; Executive Director, BISYON; and Trustee, EARTH Institute Asia, Inc., and physical wellness promoter, Roberto "Toby"  Claudio, Jr., vice president for Operations, Toby's Sports.  KK! Director/Host Dr. Cora Claudio, EARTH Institute Asia president, will moderate the talakayan in conversational Filipino and English.
