"TOWNS' 5K for Young-Woman Leaders" Is KK! Topic on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. (Manila Time) on DZRH
E rosion of values is a big challenge before us. Corruption has become pervasive. Could we ever reduce, if not, eradicate it? Could we stop or reverse the erosion of values? Where shall we start?
The TOWNS (The Outstanding Women in the Nation's Service) Foundation has been helping address this challenge. Its latest program focuses on the youth, especially the future women leaders among them. TOWNS has just launched its Young-Woman Leaders Program with the support of the Metrobank Foundation.
Through the Program, TOWNS, aims to create a venue where young women may be inspired to strive for excellence, service and leadership in their field through sharing; forge linkages with educational institutions and civic groups in the search for young women achievers; initiate and sustain the process of values clarification and transformation for young women who are potential leaders; and nurture young women to become empowered leaders with a commitment towards serving the nation, particularly in addressing contemporary issues including those affecting women and the environment.
TOWNS' first activity under the Program is a seminar/workshop on Nov. 15-16, 2008, with the theme, 5K—Kababaihan para sa Katauhan, Kalikasan at Kaunlaran para sa Kalahatan.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!) will explain the TOWNS' Young-Woman Leaders Program and share with the general public the results of the seminar/workshop. KK!'s Director/Host, Dr. Cora Claudio, president, EARTH Institute Asia and a member of the TOWNS Board, hopes that through the talakayan, more young women, as well as men, will benefit from the Program.
Invited guests are: 2007 TOWNS Awardee for Science, Dr. Maria Corazon De Ungria, Head, DNA Analysis Laboratory, Natural Sciences Research Inst., UP Diliman, and young student leaders Aissa Marie dela Cruz Ang, AB Development Studies, Ateneo de Manila University; Faye Nadine Garcia, BS Nursing, Manila Doctors' College; and Sofia Faheem, AB Mass Communications, Far Eastern University.
