G LACCIER means “Global Legal Action On Climate Change: An Inter-Generational Eco-Revolution.” It is a “movement of and by the Citizens of the World to petition their leaders (and, in effect, this generation) to seriously address the clear, present, and ongoing impacts of climate change and global heating.”

For the Philippines, climate change is not just a threat, it is already a reality. One sign is the devastation resulting from recent typhoons that have been more intense. Scientists predict extreme weather, higher temperature, and sea-level rise as primary adverse effects of climate change on the country. Hence, it is imperative for all Filipinos and others in the Philippines to act collaboratively and strategically now.

GLACCIER Philippines aims to help Philippine society adapt to climate change by identifying climate change imperatives and crafting appropriate petition or legal tools for their implementation. It uses both science and law to ensure that public and private institutions and individuals, especially national and local government officials, will cooperate in addressing the ongoing impact of climate change.

How exactly will that be done? To know the answer, tune in/watch Kalikasan, Kaunlaran! (KK!) on May 20, 2009, Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Manila Time), at DZRH-AM radio (666 in Metro Manila, other kHz nationwide), TV (Ch. 9 in Metro Manila, other cable TV channels nationwide), and Internet (http://dzrh.tripod.com or http://dzrh.prepys.com).

G uests are multi-awarded environmental champions: Atty. Antonio Oposa, Jr. and Puerto Princesa Mayor Ed Hagedorn. Dr. Cora Claudio, president, EARTH Institute Asia, will moderate the discussion in conversational Tagalog-English.
