The Commission on Filipinos Overseas, in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, will be holding the First Bayanihan sa Amerika Conference on 07 October 2007 at the New Otani Hotel, Los Angeles.
The Bayanihan sa Amerika is the first conference of Filipino community centers and associations that provide services and programs to Filipinos in the United States of America or development assistance and donations to underserved communities in the Philippines. The theme for this conference is “Community Centers and Associations in the United States: Strengthening Ties with the Philippine Homeland.” The series of activities aims to foster cooperation among Filipino community centers and associations, and relevant agencies by discussing the challenges they face and determining what measures to be undertaken to support them. The conference also endeavors to develop strategies to enhance Filipino cultural visibility through programs that will promote the Filipino culture, identify ways by which Filipino community centers and associations can assist Philippine development through resources and knowledge transfer, and create more awareness on viable business and investment opportunities in the Philippines.

The conference is in recognition of the Filipino-American organizations’ emerging role as a viable partner of the Philippine government in implementing programs for the welfare of Filipinos abroad and in the motherland.

Filipino-American associations and community centers are encouraged to send a representative to this pioneering conference. Interested organizations may confirm their participation with Ms. Rowena Sierra, Cultural Officer of the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles at tel. no.: 213 637-3031, fax no.: 213 639-0990 or through email: rsvp@pcgenla.org.  The Conference starts at 9:00 a.m. with registration from 8:00 a.m. ###
