CARSON, CA – “The citizens of the city are looking for responsible leadership and the next generation must be inspired by the selfless sacrifice of these brave men and women who serve as our first responders” and with these words Mayor Pro Tem Elito Santarina brought forward the “CARSON’S FINEST” resolution. Mr. Santarina called for the recognition and honor to be accorded those who serve as the city’s first responders (Police, Fire, Medical, Public Safety) in all emergency situations and who maintain Peace and Order. The resolution further defines the meaning of the Motto: “Carson’s Finest.”

He said that the meaning was that these brave men and women provide the best service to the community and their selfless sacrifice will always be honored, recognized and respected.

The vote was unanimous and the entire Council approved the pioneering initiative. The resolution further stipulated that these words would adorn the public areas where the offices of these first responders are. Transport vehicles may likewise carry the new slogan.

In a subsequent Staff Meeting to map out the implementation, it was suggested that new pins and patches may be designed and made an integral part of the uniform of the first responders. Santarina further added that this program must now be brought out in the community to enable schools, students to be made aware of the significance of the public service provided by the first responders and to instill inspiration. Expressing his vision and desire that the entire community be involved; Santarina signified that students, schools, residents can also recommend this recognition or award to be given to peers, teachers or any member of the community who have given notable selfless public service.

Asked as to what motivated him to bring forth the resolution Santarina responded “Every single day these gallant men and women risk their lives to ensure that our streets, our homes, our schools, our parks protected – such courage is more than enough motivation. In fact, it is an inspiration that we must all preserve for generations to come.”

In a day and age when first responders, public officials are often maligned, disrespected and ridiculed it is comforting to know that this Fil-Am public servant still believes that these unsung heroes deserve honor. # # #
