Dateline Los Angeles, CA, by the Coconut Newsatire Network, Jan. 12, 2023 By Bobby M. Reyes T he unthinkable has happened to a very-prestigious Filipino-American organization that has been in existence for nearly five decades in Southern California. The public-benefit corporation, the United Bicolandia--Los Angeles (UBLA), Inc., has been sponsoring an annual Our Lady of Peñafrancia Fiesta in a Los Angeles, CA, public park for almost four decades. The executive officers of the UBLA and their allies in its Board of Directors -- whose term of office was to expire in the last day of 2022 -- walked out of the scheduled annual election scheduled for November 20, 2022. They did not even file certificates of candidacy, knowing that they (soon, termed-out officials) were in the minority. The election proceeded, as the Committee on Elections (COMELEC), which was duly constituted -- as approved by the UBLA Board of Directors -- voted two out of its three members to go ahead with the voting. The voting process and canvassing were all done accordingly. This journalist, who is a life-time UBLA member, observed that almost all of the living UBLA past presidents and chairpersons of its Board of Directors participated, and voted, in the said November 20th election. But it is true that many members of the UBLA, Inc., now allegedly call the termed-out executive officers as "Bukolnons"? It appears that it is taken from the root word of "bukol," which is the Bicol, and Filipino, term for boil, an often-cancerous lump (of flesh) or a skin tumor. And sadly but humorously, the "bukol" is found allegedly in the brains of the said "Bukolnon" termed-out officers and "bored" (sic) directors. However, some pundits and humorists claim that they are not sure if the "coconut" (the Bicol euphemism for "brain") of the said disgraced "Bukolnon" (sic) former UBLA officials are located in their balls. The satirists, however, say that they do not know whether the balls the said "Bukolnons" have are for basketball, soccer, baseball or table tennis. As of press time, the newly-elected executive officers and directors of the UBLA are seeking the intervention of the Office of the Attorney General of California to restore order in the said public-benefit corporation. The UBLA, Inc., is also registered with the IRS as a 501-(c)-3 not-for-profit entity. They are also petitioning the OAG to freeze the bank account of the UBLA, Inc., which is now reportedly being exhausted illegally by the termed-out (former) officials.
