A godparent asked his godson what he wanted to be when he grows up. The 10-year-old boy said he wanted to be like Barack Hussein Obama and become President some day. Both of his parents smiled, as they were proud liberal Democrats.

The godfather asked: “If you were the President, what would be the first thing that you will do?”

The godson replied, “I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.”

The child’s parents beamed with more pride.

“Wow, what a worthy goal,” the godparent said. Then he told him, “You don't have to wait until you're the President to do that. You can come over to my house, mow the lawn, pull the weeds, and sweep the sidewalk and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where a homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to buy food and shelter for a night.”

The godson thought that over for a few seconds and then he looked the godparent straight in the eye. Then the child asked, “Why doesn't the homeless guy come to your house, do the work and you can just pay him the $50?”

The godparent then told the godson, “Welcome to the Republican Party.”

E pilogue. To date, the godson’s parents still aren't speaking to the godfather.

Editor’s Note: Variations of this parable appear in some online e-groups. The author rewrote one version that was sent to him by Tom Kabala of Chicago, who is now based in Los Angeles, California.
