JGL Eye By JOSEPH G. LARIOSA (© 2009 Journal Group Link International) MANNY, CALL FLOYD’S BLUFF, TAKE BLOOD TEST! But in the latest antics employed by Floyd Mayweather, Jr., Manny should not fall prey to the tricks of the other claimant as the world’s best pound-for-pound boxer. The Filipino superstar should cast out any fears for superstition by submitting to a blood test if he has really nothing to hide. Whether he has tyranophobia, the extreme and irrational fear of medical procedures involving injections or hypodermic needles, or he has a hematophobia, an abnormal and persistent fear of blood, or he has a Iatrophobia, the fear of doctor, Manny should set loose all his fears, superstitions and demons. All he has to do is to role play himself as a diabetic, some of whom would take and even inject themselves four or five times a day with insulin that they need to convert sugar and starches into energy. Without insulin, a diabetic would not have energy for movement, growth and other bodily functions. BE A BLOOD DONOR Or perhaps, he can imagine himself as a Good Samaritan, like a blood donor, who donates an average of one pint of blood per donation. He can ask Sen. Richard Gordon, the volunteer chairman of Philippine National Red Cross, who will tell him that a pint of blood that is donated by a donor is equal to 32 tablespoon full of blood. Mr. Gordon will tell Mr. Pacquiao that while an average adult body has 10-12 pints of blood, a vast majority of donors will not feel any difference after donating blood. While a few might experience temporary dizziness, with some rest and fluids, a donor will feel better quickly and the body will replace the lost fluid within 24 hours. So, even if a teaspoon or a tablespoon of blood is drawn from Manny 48 hours before the fight to find out if he has traces of the banned steroids substance, he can quickly recover his lost blood. If Manny thinks that he is possessed by an evil spirit if blood is drawn from him 48 hours before the fight and so will Mayweather. Manny should never let Mayweather brag around that drawing blood from his system is tonic for him because Mayweather is deprived of the bad spirits. MAYWEATHER VS. M anny should bear in mind that even if Mayweather, who is friendly to icy weather, not May weather, Mayweather could still not claim home court advantage even if the bout is held in Mayweather's native town of Grand Rapids, Michigan, because boxing is played indoors. Even if Manny finds the blood-test challenge ridiculous because some steroids stay in the system of its user from 24 hours to months after their use, Manny should accept the condition of Mayweather to submit to a blood test by any reputable testing bodies like Olympic-style test conducted by World Anti-Doping Agency or a subsidiary, like the United States Anti-Doping Agency. Manny can even up the ante by shaving his hair, like Mayweather. By getting bald, Manny can move his head faster based not only on aerodynamics principle but he will level the playing field when it comes to other means of testing the presence of steroids in the body. He will no longer be forced to submit hair samples. As in blood samples, steroids can also be detected not only from urine and saliva but also from hair samples. NO HAIRLINE ADVANTAGE M anny should never give Mayweather a hairline advantage. And Manny should never listen to his legal advisers to sue Mayweather because he will only give the judges in a court of laws the opportunity to declare him or Mayweather the winner outside the boxing ring. As a basketball player, Manny knows that referees should never be given opportunities to make bad calls that could affect the outcome of the game. And besides, because Manny is a public figure, he will have a hard time making a case for defamation against Mayweather in a court of law. And even in a remote possibility that he wins the case, Manny will still be a loser – in attorney’s fees in the millions of dollars that will go to the lawyers handling his case. Manny, you should accept Mayweather’s bluff, and let the games begin. If what Manny said during his 31st birthday last Dec. 17 that he was able to talk to God was true, I don’t think God will abandon Manny now when he most needs Him because God knows Manny is on the side of goodness. He might have lost his appeal in the ballot and in the movie box office, if God is with Manny (in the ring), nobody can beat him!
