A former principal was arrested on allegation that he molested several students at the Firebaugh High School in Lynwood and another student in Whittier, California. Both Lynwood and Whittier are in the Los Angeles County in Southern California.

Jonas Silverio, 40, who is said to be of Filipino descent, was arrested at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) last Wednesday, July 8, 2009. Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office said that Mr. Silverio just arrived from the Philippines at the LAX when he was taken into custody. Reports said that he was forced to go back to California after the United States State Department cancelled his American passport.

Television stations in Southern California reported last night that Mr. Silverio is accused of molesting at least three members of the Firebaugh High School’s volleyball team. The broadcasts did not, however, mention Mr. Silverio’s original nationality, as the mainstream media no longer report on the suspect’s ethnicity.

Sgt. Dan Scott of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office told television reporters that Mr. Silverio has been charged with 17 counts of committing lewd acts on minor children. He is being held in detention until he could post a $1-million bail bond. # # #
