F ormer Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos and his wife, Amelita, met with the Filipino-American community at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, California. The occasion was billed as a “Pulong Bayan,” the Filipino version of the American Town Hall meeting. Present also were some members of the Filipino-American press. The “Pulong Bayan” was held last night and it attracted a motley crowd of almost 100 persons, including some of the consular personnel. The attendance was good enough, considering that it was the start of a three-day Labor-Day weekend.

"I had a linguistics professor who said that it's man's ability to use language that makes him the dominant species on the planet. That may be. But I think there's one other thing that separates us from animals -- we aren't afraid of vacuum cleaners."--Jeff Stilson
