S en. Aquilino "Nene" Q. Pimentel, Jr., the Minority Floor Leader of the Philippine Senate, is in town. He will be the guest speaker at the 1,006th meeting of the Media Breakfast Club (MBC) of Los Angeles on Wednesday, July 22, 2009. The weekly community forum is held at the Social Hall of the Filipino-American Community of Los Angeles (FACLA), 1740 West Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90026. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. up to 11:30 a.m. The members and their guests conduct a networking session before and after the meeting, including photo opportunities.
Then Senate President Pimentel addressed the MBC in 2001, which was then his second stint at the breakfast club. Mr. Pimentel attended his first meeting of the MBC in 1998, after he was elected again to the Philippine Senate. Tomorrow's appearance will be Mr. Pimentel's seventh time to grace the functions of the MBC.
Other Filipino legislators who attended MBC meetings were then Senate President Edgardo J. Angara in 1994, Sen. Greg Honasan III (as cosponsored by the Sorsogon Province Association) in 1999, then Sen. Raul S. Roco in 2000 (as organized and co-hosted by Ernie Delfin) and several members of the Philippine House of Representatives. Among them (in alphabetical order): Rep. Salacnib Baterina (Ilocos Sur), Rep. Carmen Cari (Southern Leyte), Rep. Antonio Nachura of Samar and now member of the Philippine Supreme Court and Rep. Remedios Petilla (Leyte). Mrs. Petilla also attended an MBC meeting while she was the governor of Leyte.
The MBC meetings are open to the public.
The community forum with Senator Pimentel is cosponsored by the FACLA, the Knights and Ladies of Rizal, the United Filipinos Against Corruption, the Philippine Town, Inc. and the Philippine Veterans Federation, Region USA.
