In This Corner

By Gerry Garrison

A fter listening to all the news in the last few weeks, there are some newsworthy events that most of the press, along with the majority of the people in this country, have overlooked or, in the case of the press, have made a conscience decision to ignore.

One of the major news items that has had little coverage at all, except for some cable news programs, such as FOX News, is the killings along our Southern border.  With major cartels in Mexico coming in and out of the U.S., one would think more news organizations would be involved.

How many of you reading this column are aware that since 2006, there has been over 34,000 people killed on or around our border with Mexico.  I was shocked when I heard about it.

Last night, I watched a video of all the bodies that were dug out of a mass grave, in Tamaulipas, in northern Mexico, just about 80 miles from Brownsville, Texas.  Over 50 people, men, women and children, were taken out of this mass grave, near a site where suspected drug gang members massacred 72 migrants last summer

You want to know how they died.  They were all stopped at a check point, taken of a bust, out one at a time, stripped of all identification, then held down by one person as another took a sledge hammer and bashed them in the head.

T here was another incident in New York City where a man was talking on his cell phone, when another man walked to him and shot him point blank and walked away.  The man on the cell phone went immediately to the ground. This was all videotaped.

People came out of shops where the man was shot and just stood around.  No one did anything for at least 5 minutes; just stood and looked at him.

The man was still alive. No one bent down to comfort him and no called 911 for at least 3 minutes.  He died shortly after he was admitted into the emergency room.

I know that most of you, if anyone, haven’t heard about these incidents, or anything related to them.  We have pure evil happening at our door steps and it is not getting the attention it should.

So what are the major news organizations reporting?  Are you ready for this?

T he first big story of the week is the “Royal Wedding”. ABC has taken two days of news reporting, sending some of their major news reporters to England.  Other prime time networks are taking prime time to cover this wedding.

Seriously? Why is this such a big deal? I have nothing against Britain’s Royal Family. I am sure they are fine people. We all remember what a wonderful couple Prince Charles and Princess Diane were.

There is more press covering this wedding, than there are Brits attending this wedding. This is ridiculous. One would think those in the media want us to have a King and Queen again. This has gotten way out of hand.

T hen there is the issue with Obama’s birth certificate. Republican wanna-be presidential candidate Donald Trump has made a real campaign issue of this. All other issues he should be talking about are put on a back burner. Really?

This has been vetted so many times by the press and others; I don’t understand why Trump continued to make this a major issue of his.  Obama finally came out today and showed the long form of his birth certificate, making a fool out of Trump and anyone else who went along with him.

So what are we to make of all this?  We are more concerned about some wedding that is happening in another country, than we are about the evil that is happening right on our borders.

We have a major player in Republican politics more concerned about the place of birth of our President, than the economic woes of this country. Then he is made of fool of by a man who has no idea how to run the country.

One has to believe President Obama let Trump keep playing this out, just so other important issues, such as inflation, our economy, the fall of the dollar, the rising gas prices, be left unanswered why the media were concentrated on this folly about Obama’s birth certificate..

So what do I think we should be doing? What is it that I believe a presidential candidate should be talking to the American people about?

Stay tuned.  I will let you know in my next column.  Meanwhile, ask yourself what you think is important.

But what do I know?  Just saying … # # #

Life is short. Forgive quickly. Kiss slowly. Love truly. Laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you smile.
