Ad(ventures) For My 75th Birthmonth Part I of a Series for the Month of May 2021 By Bobby M. Reyes When I first heard Billy Joel sing in 1973 the hit tune, "Piano Man," I always wondered when I would become the "old man sittin'" next to the pianist. I believe that I am not yet an "old man" this year. In fact, my primary physician assigned to me by my Medicare provider concurs, albeit with a smile, with my claim that I might be the "Healthiest Filipino Great-grandfather in the World." Ergo, I am writing this birthmonth (sic) series to re-tell my friends the ventures that "WE, THE PEOPLE" can do in the next 25-years. Or even in a shorter time frame. It is part of the agenda that I have been advocating (and writing about) the process of changing the "Crony Capitalism" with "Cooperative Capitalism" beginning in the Philippines (PH), with Sorsogon as the pilot province. Here is part of the opening stanza of the "Piano Man" lyrics: There's an old man sittin' next to me Makin' love to his tonic and gin He says: "Son can you play me a memory?" I'm not really sure how it goes But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete When I wore a younger man's clothes ... Then in 1997 I heard Garth Brooks sing "Two Piñacoladas" and since I like it better than a gin-and-tonic drink, I said that I would switch to piñacoladas. And thereby, the "Piano Man" could have this new line, "Makin' love to his piñacolada." After all, a piñacolada is composed of one part coconut cream, one part white rum and three parts pineapple juice. All all the three ingredients are indigenous produce of the PH and Mexico. If made the official drink of the tourism industry of both countries, local farmers will also profit from growing, and distilling, the ingredients. A few years later, while I was checking the domain names that I registered, I found out that nobody registered www.2pinacoladas.com. And so I registered it and parked it on Godaddy.com domain registry for years now. H opefully before I retire in, or before, 2046 when I celebrate my centennial bash, my associates and I would have by then formed joint ventures for a "2Piñacoladas Hotel Resort," preferably with a gaming license in the PH and North America. There is an attraction that the "Margaritaville Resorts" of Jimmy Buffett does not have. Our coming "2Piñacoladas Hotel Resort" will provide registered guests with two piñacoladas per day per room, gratis et amore. The plan is for the proposed hotel to have a big bar with a stage for a band with a grand piano. And a modest dancing area. We hope to hire impersonators of Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Jimmy Buffett and Alan Jackson, so that we can play their hit songs every night. (We will have to negotiate with their agents for the licensing fees.) We have reserved tentatively a 2-hectare site at the coming "Pueblo Filipino" (Retirement Resort) in Manzanillo City of Colima Province (Mexico) for the first "2Piñacoladas Hotel Resort." My plan is to have it become a 4- or 5-star hotel that is owned by a co-op of investors, hotel employees, vendors, suppliers and even regular guests. And on Sunday morning, the big bar will play the gospel songs of Alan Jackson, as sung by his impersonator of a Filipino or Mexican singer. A non-denominational Christian religious service can be held at the big bar, if not at an adjacent "Performing Arts Center" that is planned also to be erected at the same 2-hectare site. The "2Piñacoladas Hotel Resort" is one of the projects that I proposed to Sorsoganons when I ran for governor of our province in 2016. But I lost and my dream remains a pre-feasibility study. Here is the pinned article: BRAND NAME FOR SORSOGON TOURISM: I re-registered www.2pinacoladas.com. You know already the concept of our proposed resorts. You have to hear the "2 Pinacoladas" song of Garth Brooks & see how its lyrics perfectly describe our coming resorts by the sea in Sorsogon Province: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgYiUtWmY08 FYI. In order to push the "2Piñacoladas Hotel Resort" project, I organized a Facebook Group called "Come Visit (Or Sail to) Rustic Philippines." You can visit and/or join it at this URL: https://www.facebook.com/groups/300116306670326 (To be continued ...)
