S everal co-chairs of the “Browns for Brown” Initiative joined Jerry Brown and his campaign staff in marking the Brown gubernatorial-primary victory at the Club Nokia in Downtown Los Angeles last Tuesday night, June 8, 2010.

The “Browns for Brown” delegation was composed of co-chairs Dr. Carlos P. Manlapaz, Fender Santos, Paul Villar and Ms. Cora Pastrana, who is also their Secretary General. This writer, who is the group’s pro-bono public-relations consultant, accompanied the Filipino-American delegates to the Jerry Brown event at the Club Nokia.

The “Browns for Brown” delegates met at the same event also with Mexican-American leaders who are the prime movers of the “Democrats for Democracy” and the staff of the www.noticiaselmundo.com. They discussed plans of joining forces so that they can aid more Jerry Brown in capturing again the California governorship in November 2010.

The combined Filipino-Mexican delegates greeted Democratic pillars like former Governor Gray Davis, Los Angeles City Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca. Pictures of the delegates with some of the dignitaries and with Attorney General Jerry Brown can be viewed at www.noticiaselmundo.com.

Many of the “Browns for Brown” volunteers gather at the 17-year-old Media Breakfast Club (MBC), which meets every Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Kapistahan Restaurant at the Luzon Plaza at the Historic Filipinotown District of Los Angeles. The Luzon Plaza is at the corner of West Temple St. and Bonnie Brae St.

M any of the MBC members are Reagan Democrats or Republican Party members. Almost all of them, however, have joined the “Browns for Brown” Initiative. The MBC members who have signed up so far for the Jerry Brown 2010 campaign are (in alphabetical order) Ben L. Basilio, Austin Baul, Dick Digal, Rita Dinsay, Sid Galace, Arturo P. Garcia, Paul Julian, Rizalino D. Manuel, Rosalinda Nery, Rampart Neighborhood Council President David Rockello, Erlinda Lim-Rosen, Pastor Luz Sejera, German-American MBC Co-chair Henry von Seyfried and Msgr. Eric Ong-Veloso. All of them will be designated co-chairs of the "Browns for Brown" and they will recruit their own task-force members.

The campaign staff of Jerry Brown has tentatively set the date of August 19, 2010, for the “Browns for Brown” fundraising event in Southern California. More details will be posted as they are finalized.
