There are already several hectares of fishponds in Candaba that used to raise tilapia now but which now raise Koi. Koi grows very fast in these ponds. The TCL-KOI Candaba Fisheries site in Sitio Pansol, Mandasig, Candaba, Pampanga, Philippines, is one of the pilot projects.

As envisioned by the local government of Candaba, Koi farming will be an alternative business endeavor for fishpond operators who are experiencing over-production of tilapia and low farm-gate prices.

The Department of Agriculture's Bureau of Fisheries is expected to provide technical assistance while the Department of Trade and Industry will assist in marketing the Koi harvests abroad.

The local government of Candaba closely monitors the fledgling Koi industry and will see to it that it will adhere to international standards.

Mayor Pelayo has promised to actively support the local Koi industry in its bid to penetrate the foreign market. Plans are being made to improve farming techniques and pursue aggressive marketing.
