The imposition of curfew in Metro Manila and other places is a blatant breach of the Constitution.

No curfew can be imposed without authority of law.

Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is not the law. The number of generals backing her up does not constitute law.

We, the people, should defy the curtailment of our basic rights.

We are serving notice to the government and our people that the opposition in the Senate will use all legal means to challenge the imposition of curfew as it is bereft of any legal or constitutional basis.

We also deplore the baseless and warrantless arrest of the members of the mass media who were only covering the incident at the Peninsula Hotel today.

Up to this writing, the journalists are still in detention and there is no indication when they will be released.

The Gloria Macapagal Arroyo administration is using the methods of martial law without declaring it.

Our freedoms are being subverted not by direct action but by subterfuge.

Let us all remember that the price of liberty is vigilance!
