A merican-style football is not the sport for almost all Filipino Americans and Filipinos, as they lack the height and bulk needed by the game. However, since today is Super Bowl Sunday, it may be an opportune time to remember Filipino-American standouts, Roman Gabriel and Christopher Charles Rix. To our limited knowledge, some Filipino-American high-school and university students have played football but very few of them managed to excel in it and make a name in the National Football League (NFL) or in college football – with the exceptions of Messrs. Gabriel and Rix.

Mr. Gabriel was a great quarterback with several teams in the NFL. Mr. Rix was one of the outstanding quarterbacks at the Florida State University but he did not fare well in the NFL and is now a football television commentator-analyst.
