H ollywood’s predicted blockbuster of a Doomsday movie, “2012,” does not make sense to the billions of people who believe in the teachings of their Redeemer, Jesus Christ.

The “2012” movie tells of the end of the world on Dec. 21, 2012, which is supposed to be the end of the 5,126-year-long Mayan calendar. The Mayan “Long-Count” calendar began on Aug. 11, 3114 B.C. – that is, more-than 3,100 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.

If you Google it, several sources say that the Mayan civilization used a 260-day calendar called the “Short Count.” Then the Mayans had the “Long Count” calendar that tracked their millenniums, centuries, years, months and days, beginning with the creation of the Mayan people, and which covered thousands of years into the future. More details can be read in this hyperlink, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maya_calendar

Readers may like to browse the world-renowned Mayanist scholar, David Stuart, in this link, http://decipherment.wordpress.com/

The Maya Decipherment is a weblog devoted to ideas and developments in ancient Maya epigraphy and related fields. It was launched in March 2007 by Dr. David Stuart of the University of Texas at Austin.

Yes, the movie, “2012,” is a lot of hog wash, as it hypes wrongly Dec. 21, 2012, as the end of the world when it is merely the end of a Mayan era of approximately 5,000 years. Another Mayan era begins on Dec. 22, 2012, which should run for another 5,000 years.

But to billions of people who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Redeemer, the apocalyptic end of the world is known only to one being, God the Father. Jesus Christ said that even he did not know when the end of the world would come.

Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. – Jesus Christ, as told in Mark 13:30-32

The Doomsday scenario has been told not only by Hollywood filmmakers but also by Christian “prophets” even at the turn of the new millennium (2000). But such Doomsday predictions do not make sense at all to Christians who believe truly in the Gospel teachings and readings. Amen. # # #

You quote the movie as "2021" twice in the beginning of this article... just wanted to point that out.

Thank you, Dan W, for having the proverbial eyes of an eagle. We have made the necessary corrections. Certainly, "2021" played tricks on our eyesight.

We send to you also our best wishes for a Blessed and Merry Advent Season and a more-peaceful and prosperous New Year.
