Part XI of a Series on “Saving Our Sorsogon (SOS) Bay”
Finally this publication has obtained a copy of the Bacon-Manito (Bac-Man) Geothermal Project EIA supposedly done in 1985. Apparently the Energy Development Corporation of the Lopez Business Empire did not undertake to submit THIS YEAR an updated Environmental Impact Report (EIR) even if the Bac-Man Plant doubled its capacity as of June 2011. The City and Provincial Governments of Sorsogon should have conducted public hearings on the revised EIR before approving permits for the doubling of the geothermal plant's output.

The EIR (AKA Environmental Impact Assessment or EIA) – as published by our website – should have been subject to public hearings (PH) by d City & Prov’l Govts of Sorsogon but no PH was conducted.
If our copy was d latest submitted by d Energy Dev. Corp. (EDC), Bac-Man owner & operator, then it’s obsolete, as d Bac-Man’s capacity has been doubled as of this year.
A new EIR (EIA) should have been made w/ d participation of LGUs to comply w/ zoning laws & Clean Air & Clean Water Acts
@ Sonia Lariosa & Pilar Alindogan Gabito Pls have patience in opening & reading the PDF version in our website. Then pls alert your friends in d City Council of Sorsogon to read it & schedule public hearings. The EIR (EIA) is obsolete.
@ Vladimir Ramon B. Frivaldo
Dear Honorable SP Member Frivaldo:
We have obtained d EIA, w/c you said was never placed as an item in d agenda of the Prov'l Board meetings. Now, you have a copy (w/c you could not obtain, per our FB dialog).
Pls. move to have public hearings conducted by the SP (PB) & protect the farmers & fishermen of Sorsogon Bay and Kawayan River.
To my Sorsoganon FB Friends:
Pls help in informing our people of d need to conduct public hearings on d allegations of farmers along Kawayn River & fishermen of Sorsogon Bay that Bac-Man Geothermal Plant is causing pollution to our beloved prov.
If we don't act, who will?
If we don't protest NOW, when will our city & prov'l officials act to protect d environment?
This is what I' afraid having this in Bulusan GEO THERMAL Crap.I don't trust anyone in the Gov. doing this right to start with. Dismal records proved this.
This responsible company and gov. agency should be investigated and brought to court. Order to fix this problem asap and order to give compensation to farmers affected by this irresponsible action by the company..

All the way to the top if need be, almost useless dealing with this on the local level. Media exposure and pressure from the top are necessary; mass action for max visibility is very important also. Poking on the congressional level helps!!
