T HOUSANDS of Fil-Am music lovers from all over California flocked like the biblical sheep to the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles last night, January 21, for the 7:30 p.m. concert of the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra (FASO). According to the computerized ticket scanner, at least 1,500 ticketed patrons showed up for the fifth concert of the FASO.
Entitled FASO at the Cathedral, the concert’s theme is “Reconciling God’s people.”This will be the fifth concert of the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra which has truly been achieving its goal to bring “harmony in the community.” The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels serves the total Archdiocese of over 4-million Catholics.
“We are so pleased with this privilege for FASO to perform at the Cathedral. The community can look forward to another outstanding symphonic musical performance that showcases the superior talents of our musicians at the Cathedral,” said Roger Oriel, who co-founded FASO with his wife, Cora, and Lito Ocampo Cruz.
The Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra (FASO) was organized in late 2008 by the Asian Journal Foundation, Inc. The vision of its founders was for FASO to cultivate the artistry of Filipino musicians in America and to enrich other diverse communities with the unique Filipino culture and rich musical heritage.
FASO’s musical director/conductor Maestro Bob Shroder has expressed his orchestra’s excitement about their upcoming January performance. “So many people have been asking when the next FASO concert will be. Now, they have something wonderful to look forward to. Our 5th concert, FASO at The Cathedral, will surely be an exciting and unforgettable concert that will truly be a celebration of FASO’s integration into the community to enrich people’s spirits and lives,” said Shroder.
The concert will feature the special participation of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers Alumni. FASO will perform original works, classical repertoire and excerpts from popular broadway musicals.
