“PASKO SA TEXAS”

By Gus Mercado

F ilipinos in Texas are proud to show that despite the many challenges all of them have faced this year, they can still celebrate this Blessed Season in distinctive Filipino style. Those who missed our premiere showing last weekend may still see this “feel good” event on YouTube. See link below.

Viewers will enjoy watching how Christmas is celebrated by the Filipino-American communities in the Lone Star State -- Pinoy style. It captures how Filipinos in Texas decorate their homes with colorful Philippine lanterns (parols) and prepare Christmas trees, sing Filipino Christmas carols, savor sumptuous Filipino cuisine (Noche Buena) such as lechon, bibingka, paella, hamon, puto bumbong, salabat and many other Filipino delicacies.  Also get a glimpse of the traditional Filipino evening masses (Simbang Gabi) and feast their eyes on spectacular Christmas-light shows in a fast-paced journey through different parts of the state (DFW and North Texas, East Texas, Houston, San Antonio, Central and South Texas.) Total running time is 40 minutes of non-stop fun and entertainment.

This special showcase was produced by volunteer community leaders to benefit the humanitarian projects of FILCON, a non-profit 501-C3 certified umbrella organization founded by civic leader Gus Mercado and Dallas Consul Ethel R. Mercado. Its primary mission statement is to unite the Filipinos in the region behind worthy causes; to promote and preserve Filipino culture and traditions among the younger generations of Fil-Ams. It also responds rapidly to natural calamities both in the United States and in the Philippines. Currently, the Coalition is actively helping the victims of the flooding caused by recent typhoons Rolly and Ulysses in the Philippines. It has an impressive record of giving assistance to natural-disaster victims over the years, as funded by Filipino Texans.

C redits for the special production of “Pasko sa Texas” go to Producer Edgar Santiago and his creative technical team of Edgar Malicdan, Hexel Coronado and Conrad Alagaban and with overall guidance from FILCON’s outgoing President Myrna Carreon and its Board of Directors.

Enjoy the show and share with your family and friends.
