Richmond, Va. - The Filipino United Network (FUN) was established at the Koger South Conference Center, Richmond, Virginia, September 22, 2007, at an organizational meeting of leaders from various medical, business and civic groups from around the United States, with the "sole objective of supporting and working with Gawad Kalinga in its crusade of nation-rebuilding starting with the provision of homes for the homeless and helping the poorest of the poor in the Philippines to lead a better life as future productive members and pillars of society."
The meeting was held during the convention and dinner-dance of the North Central Virginia Association of Philippine Physicians, where more than 150 guests from the region and from around the country in attendance, including a dozen of American businessmen were present. The organizational meeting and dinner were graced by the special presence of Dylan Wilk, the young British Multi-Millionaire who is the International Partnerships Coordinator of Gawad Kalinga, now residing in the Philippines.

Eugenio, M.D. The main objective of FUN in the  United States is to support and  work with Gawad Kalinga in its project of   constructing homes for the homeless as a part of its Philippine nation rebuilding goal.
Gawad Kalinga (meaning "to give care") is a rapidly developing national humanitarian movement in the Philippines conceived within the Couples for Christ society and founded by civic-leader Tony Meloto, whose brilliant model of solving the homeless problem, as an initial step in national reconstruction, and his transparency in governance and finances, have captured the trust, imagination, and support of Filipinos around the world.
Mr. Meloto, who had met with many of these various Fil-Am leaders at the SPSA Seminar Convention in Norfolk, Virginia, last July, is a recipient of various awards for his humanitarian endeavors, including the prestigious (President) Ramon Magsaysay Leadership Award.
Elected as Chairman of FUN is Fil-Am cardiac surgeon Philip S. Chua, M. D. of Northwest Indiana, who shuttles to the Philippines every other month as Chairman of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Cebu Doctors' University Hospital in Cebu City and Vice-president for Far East of the Cardiovascular Hospitals of America , a hospital builder based in Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Chua is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Philippine College of Surgeons, and a past president of the Association of Philippine Physicians in America (APPA) and the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America (SPSA).
The other association leaders from various States who were elected as officers of FUN are: Sarie G. Laserna, M. D., FACOG, Vice-President; Rudy D. Bolipata, Secretary; Charito C. Santos, M.D., Treasurer; and Emma T. Daquel, M.D., Emmanuel E. Eugenio, M.D., Leo C. Gangoy, M. D., Reynaldo Lee-Llacer, M.D., FACS, Fortunato Macatol, M.D., Mohta Rumy, Aleflor Ragaza, M.D., and Francis Talangbayan, M.D., Board Directors.   The Advisory Board includes  Sariel G.G. Ablaza,M.D., FACS, Eustaquio O. Abay, M.D., FACS, Juan M. Montero, M.D., FACS, and Antonio T. Donato, M.D., FACS.
The Filipino United Network is inviting Filipinos, other Asians, Americans, and people from other countries to join this noble crusade for humanity. Annual membership fee is $25, check made payable to FUN, and may be mailed to The Filipino United Network Secretariat at 4103 Lafayette Boulevard, Fredericksburg, Virginia 22408.
