Lolo Bobby Revives the “Save Our Sorsogon (SOS) Bay” Crusade While Loida Lewis Launches the “Save Our Spratly Islands (SOSI)” Campaign

By Goliath Letterman

Part One of the “SOS” Satire Series

T wo childhood friends from Sorsogon City, Philippines, have embarked on different “Save Something” initiatives.

Both Sorsoganons are reputedly the richest Filipinos in the United States. Atty. Loida Nicolas-Lewis is said to be the richest Filipina (in assets and financial resources) in America. Her childhood friend, Bobby M. Reyes, is said to be the richest Filipino in America insofar as number of friends, development ideas and big dreams are concerned. But in money matters, Mr. Reyes is actually said to be the poorest Overseas Filipino. Hence, the contrast between the two advocates is highlighted from the very start of this report and the clash between them.

Bobby M. Reyes, who online friends call “Lolo Bobby,” has revived his advocacy that he launched with several friends in Sorsogon Province in 1987. He calls it the “Save Our Sorsogon (SOS) Bay.” Lolo Bobby is good in making contractions, as he has an MBA to show for it. Yes, an “MBA,” as in “Masters in Bilingual Acronyms.” To read Part One of what is now an 11-article (and counting) series, please click on this hyperlink: The “Save Our Sorsogon (SOS) Bay” Initiative (Part I)

On the other hand, Ms. Loida Nicolas-Lewis, who is the favorite “Manay” of Lolo Bobby, has chosen to emulate her fellow Sorsoganon, who is now her number-one critic. She launched what some of her Seven Dwarfs have dubbed the “Save Our Spratly Islands (SOSI).”

The use of the acronym “SOSI” led to some Filipino Americans dubbing Ms. Lewis the Filipino version of “Ms. SOSI Wong,” especially since she is leading the protest against the People’s Republic of China’s alleged incursion into the Spratlys. Obviously, the people who are making fun of Ms. Lewis are referring to the novel that became a smash movie hit, as described in this link:

However, it has been reported that Ms. Loida Lewis is very upset at the box-office sobriquet that some people call her. For the reel character “Suzie Wong” was depicted a prostitute in the said movie (and novel).

By the way, if you did not get what “Seven Dwarfs” referred to, please read this article written by Lolo Bobby: How Loida Lewis Got Dubbed “Snow White(wash)” and then “CinderLoida” in Ongoing NaFFAA Soap Opera

The “Save Something” Modus Operandi

H ow Bobby Reyes and his fellow “SOS Bay” leaders plan to do their advocacy in Sorsogon Province is detailed in the The “Save Our Sorsogon (SOS) Bay” Initiative series of articles. He has, however, managed to get the support of some environmentalists, fishermen’s organizations in Sorsogon Bay and farmers along the banks of Kawayan River in Sorsogon City.

Ms. Loida Lewis launched the “SOSI” Initiative last July 8, 2011, in several cities in the United States. Another Sorsoganon in America, Joseph G. Lariosa, filed this report: Fil Ams to Hold Protest Rallies v. China as U.S. Paper Urges Obama to Rally Behind PH

Editor’s Note: Mr. Lariosa is the dean of Filipino correspondents in the United States. He recently earned a fellowship from the Ford Foundation, as described in this article, Ford Foundation Awards Joseph Lariosa a Fellowship and Trip to AAJA's Detroit National Convention

Atty. Lewis has also funded the ocular inspection of the disputed Spratlys by several Filipino congressmen. She chartered a private aircraft to fly over the disputed chain of islets and reefs. She has also tapped the services of two of her “Moral Dwarfs,” Armando “Doy” Heredia and Eric Lachica to field hundreds of Moro vintas (sailboats) as a "Moro-Moro," if not a "Comedia," armada to protect the Spratlys from Chinese incursion.

Mr. Heredia was the former Chief Operating Officer and Chief of Staff of Ms. Lewis when she was the national chairperson of the National Federation of Filipino-American Associations (NaFFAA). He is a retired captain of the Philippine Navy, who fancies himself as a “retired commodore.”

Eric Lachica holds also a similar rank, as he was the captain of his grade-school debating team. The other NaFFAA Dwarfs call Mr. Lachica as “Commode,” short for commodore.

The “Bugok Brigade”

T his reporter has learned from impeccable sources that “Commodore” Heredia and “Commode” Lachica plan to use rackets to throw hard-boiled stale eggs (AKA “bugok” in Filipino language) against the Chinese should the invaders try to land on the Spratly Islands presently occupied by the Philippines. The ammo will either be stale (bugok) “Penoy” (boiled duck egg) or “Balut” (boiled fertilized duck egg). Doy Heredia, Eric Lachica and the other NaFFAA controlling-clique members are experts in using rackets, as described in this article, Eric Lachica, Rodel Rodis and Loida Lewis Display on June 30 in L. A. their Rackets Even if They Do Not Play Tennis

Apparently, Ms. Lewis and her Moral Dwarfs do not like to help the “SOS Bay” Initiative, as it is a mere local issue. They like allegedly to meddle in an international dispute, as there is more limelight, fame and glare of publicity in battling the Chinese than in fighting pollution in Sorsogon Bay.

There are reports that Atty. Lewis and her supporters believe that the Spratlys were originally settled by some Chinese settlers in Sorsogon Province. This writer is investigating the reports and will discuss them in Part II of this series.

*rolling in laughter* rather like to be a Lolo Bobby - rich in friend and dev't ideas than his materially-rich counterpart (LNL). Reading the linked article, it seemed that LNL's chairmanship of the Fil US Organization - NaFFAA - was mired in controversy?
